Question

Try Iain at Litimports (www.litimports.co.uk) as he has one of these cars in now with more on order no doubt

Its 14411AA492 for the ball race version, 14411AA541 for the sleeve bearing version. Spec C is AA492.

Latest MY03 WRX STi Spec C twin scroll turbo charger assembly is 14411AA493 and will set you back ¥ 198.000. Gaskets for turbo are 44011FE010 and 44011FE020 (¥ 570 and ¥ 680 respectively).

How much is the manifold to go with it? And how different are the ECU maps to get the best from it?

The Spec C manifold won't fit with a standard oil pan. I'll have a custom manifold made (4-into-2-into-turbo) if I go with the twin scroll turbo.

Don't know about remaps. I think nothing a good EcuTek can't solve.

I find those a bit too expensive, and I don't need that bhp range at the moment. But a good link anyway.

What is a twin-scroll turbo? Why would anyone want one over a 'traditional' turbo?

There's plenty been written about the twin-scroll implementation in the STi 9 "Spec C" bigman, so clicky on the search button will likely work wonders.

Put simply, the twin scroll impeller housing, when combined with the equal length 4:2 exhaust manifold, allows the turbo impeller to work much more efficiently. There are improvements in smoothness, turbo response and fuel economy, although the characteristic offbeat Subaru exhaust note is replaced by a (WRC car or motorbike-like) howl.
