Question

I have a 1998 Forester T/tb with the auto gearbox.
I think the answer to my question is probably " No" but I might be surprised. The box is not fitted with a power hold facility and this cannot be fitted as an after part but is there any way in which the time lag, especially in kick down, can be reduced? I would just like the response to be a little more urgent. A modified gearbox rebuild is not really a practical idea as gains would not justify the cost.
Thanks

Brian

I take it that the silence means I just have to live with the current set-up?

auto boxes need more torque to work properly your engine will probably be tuned to suit the box messing about could make it worse !

Brian- The power hold won't make any difference to the time it takes to accelerate in a gear.

The power hold only allows maximum revs in a gear(instead of short shifting)and it will allow a better kickdown, in so much it will always(if asked)kick down 2 gears.

If your car hasn't got a power mode then I guess it is set to it's optimum parameters.

Try holding a gear manually, do this rev further than when in auto?

Manual shift too, is it quicker?

If not, you just need more power.

When up and running, there shouldn't be any "lag" as you put it, between gear changes, that is the beauty of auto's.
