My MY00 currently has a K&N Induction kit fitted and I am considering binning it in favour of a performance panel filter (ITG).

Has anyone any experience of both filters and if so, what one do you find better and what are the pros and cons of both?

Does the induction kit actually drop the power figure, due to sucking in hot air from the engine bay compared to a panel filter in the enclosed air box?

Other than the Induction noise, can anyone think of any arguments for prolonging the K&N's life?

I'm aware of all the MAF sensor arguments re the induction kit so I'm not really needing any advice in that respect.

Cheers

Hi mate

I had an ITG Panel Filter on my MY00, and bought a K & N Ind Kit
ran with the Ind Kit for about 2/3 weeks, and went back to the ITG Panel Filter

this was before the current bout of hot weather, but a couple of reasons really

1) nice noise but not round town
2) Scoobynet Paranoia

Then I read about the hot engine bay air, so I sold it

I've had both on my MY99

Big difference seems to be the noise, which I like and apparently the K&N is louder to people standing on the street than the driver...so it must be pretty loud.

Personally, I would have stuck to the ITG and removed the resonator (which I have now done), but can't be bothered to put the ITG back...

I have run with both a K&N cone and as I am at present an ITG filter. I am personally not one for "Induction Roar" and did find that the car felt a bit lathargic with the induction kit so went back to the airbox but fitted an ITG panel instead. I am very happy with the ITG and have had it fitted now for approx. 10K miles with no problems

Have had both, finally opted to stick with the ITG (not so noisy and noteable decrease in fuel consumption) HOWEVER..........car went to Power & Engineering recently for a service and 'once over', I had a very longwinded conversation with the guys in the workshop when they discovered my ITG and am now running with a K&N panel filter........car as responsive as before, fuel consumption better and no 'treacle' on my MAFF ..... also warranty intact, not the case if you fit an ITG !!!!

Why not just use the STI filter.

It can filter more than enough air for a moderatly tuned car and will ease worries about MAF's etc.

I'm not really fussed about the make of panel filter I use...

I was more concerned with the arguments for and against each type (induction kit/panel filter)

It seems that the Induction kits improve noise but may lose power, whereas the panel filters make little noise but power isn't lost.

Would this be right?
