Question

My car is a 95Wrx ra, from what i can hear & have been told that my up-pipe could be split causing a hissing sound.
Which after market up-pipe is best value for money as i have seen one priced at over £300 what a rip-off.
Can the up pipe be removed without taking the d/p & turbo off?
Can I instead take the route by removing the cast exhaust manifold off first etc.

The up pipe is connected to the cast headers at the bottom (2 bolts) and bolts to the turbo and 2 brackets connected to the engine (5 nuts in total, 3 to turbo and 1 on each bracket).

The way to remove, is remove downpipe, then this provides you with access to 2 of the awkward nuts at the top of the up pipe, the other 3 can be removed easily.

Ring round some of the local companies, see scoobyshop for possible exhaust suppliers, and you should find some reasonably priced.

IMO £300 is a little OTT for an up pipe, when you can get a full set of headers and up pipe in some of the group buys in general for around £400.

Had to change my up pipe last week as the old one cracked all the way round on the flexi joint. I took both the manifold and the down pipe off to allow me to get the up pipe off.

Paid £99.99 for mine from Graham Goode. Dont want to comment on the quality as yet. Little unsure at moment whether its the old gasket which is causing it to blow or incorrect angles on the flanges!

Thumbs up

Not the d/p again i remember how hard it was last time to remove it but i suppose ive got to do it all over again. Group buy sounds good for around £400 for header as well, i'll have a look
Whats up with the GGR up pipe then have you still got the blowing problem, is the fitment no good (flanges)etc.
I try H&S as well, whats the slip joint then.
Thanks all.

I had the Slip joint up pipe supplied by Lateral Performance
It is a two peice pipe that is slip jointed so that it can expand and retract without the issues of the non slip jointed up pipes.
I woudl personally reccomend this over the solid one peice up pipes.

Couldnt find the group buy tried search but no joy.
I'll call Lateral performance tommorrow for more info site not complete yet. I was curious about the orignal flex type up pipe.I thought the solid type seemed my only opition. Thanks Tweenierob Lateral Performance sounds a better design, as i dont want to change or refit this pipe ever again.

I am not connected at all with Lateral but was honestly impressed with it, i had no issues with flanges matching up or fitment probs.

I would have gone for the slip jointed pipe as it is only a little extra. Only that pipe from Lateral is non ready yet and was in a rush to get mine changed. My gaskets should arrive to 2morrow so will let you know whether the problems sorted or not!

Look forward to hearing your results. RCM pointed out that my up pipe could be split when having my cambelt/timimg checked. Has this split or leak caused any other effect to your motot besides hissing sound.

The Gaskets had arrived by the time I had got home from work today. Big thanks to Josh at Graham Goode for sorting that. Cant fault the service provided. Well got them fitted and yes it sorted the blowing from the flange joints.

I only noticed the pipe had cracked after loosing all boost pressure. Changed the pipe and it aint blowing any more, but still no boost!!

End conclusion on your up pipe question, Cant fault the Graham Goode up pipe. Less than £100 with excellet customer service!!
