Gearbox oil leak?
#1
I've just had another engine put in and.....
I have oil dripping down from the gearbox area.
On very close observation, it doesn't seem to be coming from the engine rear crankshaft seal, but seems to be coming from the gearbox side of things. Plus there is no contamination on the flywheel and no signs of contamination on the clutch assembly.
Also noticed a vibration. This vibration goes when the clutch is depressed. I'm thinking that the vibration could be coming from the gearbox main shaft and when the connection between that and the engine is broken the vibration is stopped.
If this is the case, could the bearing be worn in the gearbox causing the oil seal to wear and leak?
Obviously the gearbox/engine has to be split for investigation, but having a clearer idea of what to expect may help me be prepared.
Thanks all.
