VF24 lifespan

Can anyone tell me the realistic lifespan of a VF24 turbo unit? I have heard that you can't service it or anything neither. is that true? Any pros and cons would be appreciated.

It's a lovely little turbo, and I reckon one of the sturdier of the VF line (bar the later 30-series).
