Ahem - Thought about this myself for my classic, and it does indeed fit...

...only if your car is LHD!

The clutch reservoir is in the way on a RHD car.

Mike, yeah worked out it would fit when i had a squizz at an STi8 at Palmers, was just wondering if someone knew its 'volume' the APS top mount one is about 6,900cm3 (or is it mm? i dunno) i think, so if the STi8 one is close to that size or bigger then i`m gonna get that one seeing as its at least £100 cheaper. Might be at Palmers tomorrow morning coz i wanna look at the 22b before some git buys it so i`ll quiz them some more on the intercooler

Personally I would either go for a FMIC or water injection. You quickly end up at the same place you started with charge temperatures on an uprated TMIC.

only on LHD? cool I have a LHD, now where is that thread?
But what about the bonnet scoop on a classic? is it large enough to distribute the air over the STI i/c, which is larger than the bonnet hole...?

Quite a few chaps in OZ running uprated topmounts (MRT and Hyperflow seem to be the favorites) and are using larger scoops along with modified bonnet undertrays.

It is OK to have a scoop smaller than the area of the intercooler according to Corky Bell. The main issue is a seal to force all the incoming air through the intercooler.

The modified undertray is to ensure that a good seal is maintained with a different size of intercooler.

There must be some benefit to the larger scoop?

Hi Abbey

You beat me to it by a couple of weeks again I was going to ask Ian Armstrong about the STi 8 intercooler for the MY02. I also loked at the APS ones and they seemed to be a little thicker.
Also loked into the Aquamist system suggested by John Banks (www.aquamist.co.uk/). All seems a bit dangerous to me but I guess it isn't.

See if Ian wil do a "group buy" on the intercooler if it fits mine.

Let me know how you go on and hope the 22B's still there. Mind the roadworks

Midlife.....

any chance of e-mailing me off line re price of TD05 ?

Midlife, YHM

22b was still there but i only had 2 mins to look at it as i would`ve been late for work. Am back in 2 weeks for a service so will try and convince them to let me have a good look (:cough: drive :cough Bloody roadworks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Banks: you told me that seeing as i was only going to (reluctantly) stick to the 350bhp mark a good TMIC would be ok, is this not the case anymore? Cant really be arsed to hack my bumper up for the sake of a few bhp.

Cheers

Abbey

Thanks for the mail..Problems with AOL and the pound sign. I guess they expect everything in dollars.

There seems to be a "law of diminishing returns" both in terms of BHP and Wallet. I want to get to about 300 BHB and this seems quite "do-able" with standard car, bigger turbo, cooling, fuelling etc..plus some magic dust from our EcuTek mapping guru's.

It seems the extra over 300 BHP is a steep learning curve which is easy to fall off

Just looked at Aquamist website.........load fu**ing greek to me!!!!

Am paying for 10 bottles of NF octane booster tomorrow, think i`ll go that route instead of water injection.

Didn`t stick in at school so if you`ve got an intercooler with core dimensions of 46cm x 28cm x 9cm, what would its total cm3 be? do you just multiply all 3 figures? if you do i get an area of 11592cm3..........seems alot. HHHEEELLLPPP!!!!!!!

was also thinking of getting one of those 25% larger bonnet scoops that jap-innovations sell to get a bit more air on the top mount

Abbylad.

The measurements you took will give you the volume which is correct at 11592 cm3.
If you want the area of the intercooler you`ll just need the length x width.
Just leave out the depth measurement which i presume is the 9cm.

Giving you 46cm x 28cm and an area of 1288 cm2

Regards
Rob

Martin,

Do a search in the MRT Subaru Road/Street Mods Forum for "Top Mount" or "TMIC", there are lots of comments in there about the MRT/APS/AVO/Hyperflow top mounts as well as larger scoops undertrays etc.

I am considering getting a custom TMIC made for my MY98 as I don't want to go to a FMIC and don't want to spend £800 on one of the (excellent) Oz imports. Will be using it in conjunction with WI.
