OK, no laughing please. I know it`s big and slow yadda yadda yadda but it was cheap and so am I.

Anyway, what I want to know being very new to Subaru is are there any bolt on engine mods that will give me a little more power.I`m a middle aged family man and really just need a little extra BHP

Or is the cheaper option to find a bigger engine to swap out?

Remove snorkel from guard, run a nice hose to the air box.

If you can afford it get the throttle body enlarged, makes quite a difference on a N/A engine.

Alcohol and Water injection, will get you flying cheap to make, and resonably easy to fit, and what a difference, rr you could run staight water, or even steam by wrapping copper pipe around your header pipes before going to the mainfold area. Note you would need to run the system using a WOT switch or manual switch or something similar, easier on a turbo because you can use the boost line.

Guess what? I have no idea what you just said???

call me slow on the uptake, but is there a way of saying that without multisylabic phrases?

Pretend I`m a woman and then explain it

Just looked at my reply and it seems to be a little sarcastic. That was not intended ,sorry.

Anyhow, my Legacy is a 1990 `H` and is a N/A 1820cc.

I know next to nothing about Subaru` so have no idea if there are any parts that can be bolted straight on, such a carbs, turbo anything really for a little more poke. Please keep in mind that I am disabled and even though I wish to do the work myself won`t be able to do much other that bolt-ons.

Thanks.

The 1.8 is SPFI (single point fuel injection) which means it has a throttle body which also incorporates the single fuel injector and the mass air flow meter. In fact, it's quite an advanced piece... Too bad it won't flow air that well. Cheapest swap would be an EJ22 (= 2.212 cc MPFI engine) with 136 bhp. However, that would also mean getting the wiring system converted from SPFI to MPFI (different pin layout on the ECU and engine wiring is different too), so that's only for die hards really.

No amount of wishful thinking od driving will make a 1.8 Legacy fast. I`ve own fast cars and believe me this isn`t fast.

Regarding your turbo comment.

OK who makes a turbo that will fit my car? And by fit I mean from the box without having to by another engine because fit doen`t really mean fit

Forget about the EA82 turbo (EA82T), it won't fit the Legacy drive train. Besides, it's a very fragile engine proned to crack cylinder heads (I had a few).

BTW, the EJ18 carb engine only was for Mid-East countries, all European cars had fuel injection.
