What triggers C.E.L light??
#1
Full Scoobysport system waiting to go on '02 WRX.
Upipe/downpipe/centre sections/backbox.
What part(s) will trip the C.E.L light. I have been told the only part that will need a fix for the C.E.L is the upipe sensor.
I have also been told it will pass MOT's only with the upipe CAT installed, if so this is great!
Can anyone confirm this??
Cheers!

The upipe is the EGT (exhaust gas temperature sensor) this can fail though the cel fix does not fix this....
The downpipe is usually responsible for throwing a P0420 (cat eff. below threshold) this is what the cel fix - fixes
You will pass an mot with 1 cat in; though you need to make it hot and make sure the car goes in straight away for a test. if its left to cool then a fail is inevitable...

Thanks for the info....
The thing I am contimplating is fitting the exhaust from the turbo back loosing the second and third CAT's. I was led to believe that this would not put the C.E.L on as the first CAT would remain in the upipe. Also from a legal point of view it still technically has a CAT, I don't think there is anything saying a car should have three CAT's (I will probably be corrected on that one!)
I was told I would only need the C.E.L fix if changing the upipe which, as you mentined is the CAT efficiency error code.
I would love to do the upipe as well but it looks like a pain in the backside to fit.
The question is if I just go from the turbo back will I need to modify anything else to stop the C.E.L comming on?
If so what's the best mod and where can I get it?

If you modify the downpipe back you will need a cel fix box to extinguish the check engine feature.....(that relates to the specific error code)
Many outlets now supply these costing roughly £50 & probably 15 minutes to install.

There are more sources though I ca't remember the telephone numbers
