ive just been told my 94 wrx import is possibly a type r version, the problem is it only goes to 110 ,this is abit depressing for me asill be getting overtaken by bloody rs turbos etc if iwere to play with any on the open road , is there any advantages of owning a type r version and is there anything i could do without spending huge amounts of money on a new box to sort this problem out ,and is there any advantages of owning a type r and why did they produce a type r if it only does 110 , is there any subaru specialists in the north east i could visit let them check me car out and to make sure it has been de limited ?

If it only does 110 then its probably still restricted. I think that Type R's with the 1:4.444 final drive will do 127mph. They were geared like this for competition use. IE to accelerate as quickly as possible!

The easy way to work out if you have a type R is to count the doors. If it has 2 doors and isnt a P1 or a 22b then its a type R. If the rear passenger seats have the luzuary of their own set of doors, and you have very close, low gearing, then you may have a Type RA.
Speed is limited to 112mph (180KMPh) from the factory on Japanese imports. This limiter can be removed fairly easily.

Just spotted the 1994 bit. The type R shell wasn't built until circa 1997, so it isn't a type R.
Your problem is much more likely to be the speed limiter.
If you are stuck at 112mph in fifth and your rev counter is not bouncing off the redline then you are being speed limited.

what happens is at around 5k ish on the revs im going 110 ish then the engine will cut and the rev counter shoots to zero for a couple of secs then all of a sudden the engine kicks back in and the rev counter goes up again ive been told its restricted , its a unusual gear ratio ie ra or it could even be a fault how do i check,? 94 wrx 4 dr extras ie sunroof air con are these things standard so you wouldnt say its a type r either it has alloy bottom arms at the front , and been told its a type r because of these , or could it be a ra ?

If the car limits speed to 112mph in fifth at 5000rpm then it is the japanese OE speed limiter that is stopping you.
It is not a type R because (A) Type R's have 2 doors, not 4 and (B) They didnt make the 2 door shell for the type R until ~1997.
If you are hitting the 112mph limiter at 5000 in fifth, this equates to ~90mph at 4000rpm in fifth, This is NOT an RA gearbox ratio. On an STI you would tend to see ~80MPH at 4000rpm in fifth, on a short ratio fifth RA box you would see less than 80MPH at 4000 in fifth.
So:
Based on the info you have given, you have a regular WRX gearbox (similar to UK car) and the japanese speed limiter is still enabled. You do not have a type R car or a type RA short ratio gearbox.
Solution:
Get the speed limiter bypassed. On most early cars with cable driven speedo's, this is simple, the limit is increased to 180Mph when they fit the 5/8ths reduction gearbox into the speedo drive cable to convert the speedometer from KPH to MPH, assuming you have a 0 to 180kph speedo face.
