Question

Need to alter my EGT sensor as the power me car makes is causing an engine fault. I've been told to remove the sensor, fit a small bolt, and install a ohm resistor to give correct readings. One question...where is the EGT sensor on an MY02 - any pics would be great....

Anyone know a place to buy a 2.2k ohm resistor? Electronics shop maybe? Never been in one.

EGT probe is in the up pipe to the turbo. It's connector is on the left sde of the engine (bay from the front) and has two wires. Unplug the male connector and stick the 2.2kOhm in the female plug. I'd just leave the sensor in place. You can get a resistor from any electrical supplier.

Cheers Steve...

I'm 80% I know which connector it is...it's under the small black plastic tray (with 2 thumb screws) and it's the lowest connector (the one with two black wires)?

2.2K ohm resistor here we come. I suppost I can use the male connector for a EGT gauge at a later date if I want...

If you a running more power and a full system the EGT often goes. I got through 5 in mine until I placed the EGT in the downpipe. This was an option made available by Ian at Hayward & Scott 01268 727256.

Since fitting the downpipe and changing the EGT sensor to its new home where it is at least 150c cooler; I have had no problems whatsoever.....

I have an 02 WRX that had the same fault. I left the probe in place and fitted a 2.2k ohm resistor. You can buy them in any electrical type place and take 10seconds to fit. If you require further help feel free to email me.

Fitted the 2.2K resistor yesterday and ECU light out instantly...lovely job. Tested my EGT sensor and it's gone for sure - don't think I'll bother with the re-location thing.

Yeh, ace Pete...It was 7p inc the VAT...funny having VAT added to such a small amount!!

I've stopped looking at new EGT kits though as the sensor's are bloody expensive!

Is it the correct rating? 2.2 needed (I tried a 2.4 before and that didn't work). Just need to 'plug' it into the female connector of the EGT. Then warning light goes out instantly the car starts.
