Custom FMIC
#1
Hi All
Following a thread in general for a group buy on FMIC, Steve has sugested contacting AH fabrications for some custom made intercoolers.
AH need a drawing of the intercooler with pipe lay out and sizes.
Design wise, I'm thinking on something similar to the HKS intercooler.
The core size could be 600x300x70mm, but what about the pipe work diameters and lenghts?
Has anyone got a scetch or sizes to hand (or link) where I can find the sizes of the pipe work, so I can send it down to AH please?
Regards

Windows - You are a really bad influence on my bank account.
Injectors ordered, headers on group buy, custom FMIC...
...At least the bank manager is happy
But seriously though I am interested in your findings.

LOL
David, any idea if AH have already done a custom FMIC for a classic and already have the sizes?
Planning on calling them on Monday to speek to Alex?
Whats the spec on the front mount you have for sale soon, does it come with all pipes or just a core?
Any ideas on cost please?
I think AH will be hard to beat on price though?
They way Steve's talking, they have built FMIC's with loads of custom pipe work for £350!!

hmmmm.
I think you will find it more difficult than all this.
You need to figure out exactly how much bumper cutting you want to put up with too.
I would estimate about £500 for a full kit. Pipework isn't cheap, and easy to underestimate cost and complexity.

Dont mind butchering the front bumper, to get the benefits of a thicker core.
Could buy some plastic pipes from a diy place, make the piping required, and use it for sizes, but that will put the total cost up and I want to get one of these made at the least possible cost.
If I can get the first one made, it's going to open up a few doors for other people, theres loads of people on here who are interested in buying a front mount, but the only option just now is to buy a ready made one from one of the big manufacturers at a high cost.
Will give AH a phone today and see what they think.

I can vouch for the quality of Alex's work.
He made me a little front mount for my Skoda. Not as big as the one you are talking about (core is 535x406x75, excluding end tanks). I've got the mounting points on now its just a question of doing the pipe runs. Oh, and no bumper cutting needed for mine
Very reasonable price too, £220 +VAT. IMHO much better quality than some of the others mentioned.

sent the intercooler core off this afternooon, along with a few sketches, to have the end tanks rolled / formed.
about a weeks wait and we will be there.

"""Don't suppose those sketches could find there way on to an e-mail?"""
not worth the paper they were printed on really...
and the sketches are still with the fabricator anyway.
suppose I'd better go and see what they've done, it's been well over a week now

I can provide intercoolers with a core size of 600x300x76 with bar plate with a chrome finish.
I have pics if anyone can host them ?
I am fitting one to MY95 just finishing the pipework at the mo.
