it would be a wise move, though not essential if you're careful with your fuel.

If you do trackdays though, I would get one, they can put increased loads on the engine, especially in terms of heat.

Same car, same fuel, and had a knocklink installed early on in the cars life

There's no way you can just "guess" the conditions your car could knock, considering the number of phase2 engines that have gone bang over the last 3-4 years, I'd say its essential

Consider this, you're having a "enthusiastic" drive, but unknown to you, the conditions (both atmos and car) are in the danger zone ...

With a knocklink you back off and let the car cool

Without a knocklink you phone the AA/RAC to tow you home and wait for the rebuild bills to rack up

You pays your money...

I'd say yes - I'm getting a 95 WRX and more and more believe that the price of a knocklink is worth it and will therefore be arranging to have one installed to help keep the engine safe - the sti engine appears to be better in some ways but also more prone to detontation and it would be extremely prudent to have one fitted.
Not sure if some remappers believe that once they've done their job in remapping to UK fuel a knocklink is redundant but a remap is relatively expensive in comparison to a knocklink although cheap in comparison to a knacked engine. Ideal is probably the 2 combined ?

Exclamation

I think all cars should have a knocklink.

Regards, Knocklink LTD <--

Seriously though, other things can create det irrespective of correct fuel - heatsoak, high EGTs, dodgy MAF even a bad batch of fuel that you thought had the expectant RON.
