STi 7

I have searched for previous threads on the subject of an annoying resonance at about 4000 to 4250 ish rpm but could not find what I was looking for.

Many of you had this problem and some had theirs cured by their dealer, I could not find the entries that mentioned the cures.

To help my dealer find the problem with my car can any of you fellow Scooby Netters remember what was vibrating in your engine bay?

Ta Muchly

The only resonance I hear when revs get around 4-5 K is a real tunder & lightning sound, which to me is the proof that all 265 horses starts to wake up Can't say that I have noticed any annoying sound so far, except from suspension rattle that is

Cheers

I had this on my STI7, spoke to my dealer about it, they found something a bit loose under the intercooler, can't remember exactly what it was though.

I had a whining sound at 3700rpm, when hot only. Had a HKS oil cooler installed by the previous owner. When I had it re-arranged (for neatness), the sound slightly changed in quality and volume. For curiosity, I disconnected the cooler and the noise disappeared.

Very strange, but I rekon its the feedback/backpressure(?) to the engine oil pump or something which was causing the whine. Have yet to try another oil cooler setup tho, but other owners with different oil coolers have not reported such a phenomenon.

My MY02 STI had a similar vibration from new. Occured at ~4k rpm and didn't matterif stationary or on the move.

The dealer removed the intercooler and found a pipe that had come out of it's retaining clip underneath. All covered by warranty.
