I've been searching through the site about Forge VTA Dump Valves. There is alot of posts about them. I'm not bothered about fuel consumption, lets face it, if I was I wouldn't have brought a Subaru. I should know better but I want the Whoossh noise. From the people on here that own them, have they caused any problems, I've read about Idle trouble, is this true? Apart from that with the extra fuel will this damage my engine. Do I part with my cash for one?

I have an MY99 fitted with a VTA forge.
Idle is fine and i've never noticed any diff in the fuel consumption.
People argue the toss whether they are any good.
In my experience, i find it is better for changing gears when dirving hard, ie- i used to find it quite jerky when getting back on the power.
I recently re-fitted the OE item, and struggled to drive with it.
For me, the forge is best.
Be prepared for answers very much in the other direction.
Personal preferance wins through on this one.

Thanks for that Brun. I think the plastic may have to come out soon. Your right it will probably be personal preference. As I've said I should know better but I want the noise.

I've just been out for a play actually.
As standard in most cases, the Forge is fitted with the red spring, which doesn't do much in the way of "whoosh" - only when changing towards peak boost.
If you email Forge, they very kindly send out for free, the blue (softer) spring with a couple of shims.
I have been running mine for months now with the blue and no shims, but progress can be jerky from time to time. It's a compromise really.
Standard = Jerky when booting it.
Forge = Jerky when not booting it.

I have just fitted one shim an have found progress to be much smoother across the rev range, at the expense of a bit of whoosh.
The whoosh is still very much there, but it's a much sharper
whoosh.
What MY is your car?

Thanks again Brun. It's good to hear from someone who uses them. My car is a MY00 so I guess it would be the same as yours. They look reletively simple to fit, bolt onto the intercooler. I'm think I've almost talked myself into ordering one. Nice to know they don't really cause any major problems.
