Anyone done it?? and im sure i read somewhere it puts stress on the engine?

Any facts would be greatly appreciated !

Nope it won't damage it, if you were to go further down the tuning route you will benefit from a mappable ecu.

Put it this way, I've had my STI5 for 2 years now, its been in and out of varying stages of tune with / without a mappable ecu and touch wood its still going strong.

You stand a serious chance of blowing up an STi 7 or 8 by doing this. Do a search through drivetrain on overboost and boost creep on STi 7s.
