John,
In your opinion is a custom map better than a "off the shelf" map?
I have a full H&S exhaust, ITG filter, upgraded intercooling hosing and, bigger brakes and a boost gauge. Is there anything else you would recommend before getting the ECU upgraded to produce more power?

I have a MY00 with what I presume must be a AE802 ECU in it at the moment, my question is do Power Engineering offer a custom re-map for the £625 advertised or are you paying for the standard TEK2 ECU map pre-configured for decat exhaust, air filter etc?
I know I could ask them myself, but rather than wait till Tuesday I thought I'd ask in here?
Does Bob Rawle offer a custom re-map service?
Cheers

You can get a little more than PPP and Tek 2 by running a little more boost, depending on the car, although often you have to retard the ignition map to do so without detonation. Some cars with PPP or Tek 2 already boost to 17+ PSI although they fairly softly seek out 15.7 or 16.0 PSI held boost.

A Dawes in combination with PPP or Tek 2 will get you pretty much all that you can get out of a decat MY99/00 without changing the turbo IMHO.

So a custom map could get you a bit more by getting the boost a bit higher on your individual car, plus you might be able to tweak the fuelling and ignition here and there, but there are no MASSIVE gains to be had.

You could think about an adjustable restrictor valve to get the boost just right, they are under £15, I found this a godsend with my PPP decat to get it just right.

However, you would be best advised if fiddling with boost to get a knocklink, it also becomes a bit more DIY to set it up which may or may not be for you. In addition if fiddling for that last bit of boost to eek out of it you really want to be using Optimax and consider octane booster too.

I can discuss this more with you off line if you want to email me as you have no email address displayed in your profile.

To be honest John I don't want to fiddle with the engine too much as reliabilty means an awfull lot to me. All I'm really after is a safe way to add an extra 20-30bhp via a ECU map.
That is as far as I tend to go with engine mods and the TEK2 seems the most talked about and safest for UK turbos AFAIK.
If I didn't live so far away from you I'd happily get a custom map from you but Fife is a long way from Surrey.
Looks like Bob will be getting a call on Tuesday!
Cheers

Had my Tek2 re-mapped by Bob Rawle a while ago. Definitely goes better, and boosts higher and more eagerly. Probably not a vast difference, but I reckon maybe another 20bhp? But, does make the car accelerate a lot quicker in the nid range.

Definitely worth doing IMHO

Question

Matt,

Was that remap for the flat rate Tek 3 £625 price or is there an incremental path for Tek 2 owners ?

Cheers,

Andy.

No, I've got a Tek2.5 map but was curious to know what the upgrade cost might be.

Can't remember exactly how much I paid, but it was less than getting a fresh Tek3, so, yes, got a "discount" as I already had a Tek2
