the speedo hand is shaking a bit while driving in any speed, just started recently.
Is it the mech./electric which would need some cleaning? I've had that with my old car.
or is it that the speedo is just afraid of showing the real figures when I drive
thanks for any help

I dont know if it's an electric on manual speedo, but if its cable driven from the transmission this can be casued if the cable has a sharp bend in it. Has the g/box or anything been out recently?

It depends on the age of the car, I think they were mechanical upto 96 then electronic.
If its mechanical then either a fraying cable or a worn cog in the gearbox where it picks up the drive.
Cables are quite cheap but fiddley to fit the drive cogs are really easy to fit (I did one on a Micra - cost £30).
If its electronic I'd be guessing but I'd say faulty sender or dial.
Hope this is of some help.

Mine is under the left hand side of the intercooler as you look at the engine.... it is attached to the gear box....
Look for the gear box dip stick then look back towards the rear of the car where you can see the gear box and you should be able to see it.

just a quick comment on this one, if you're removing the cable from the gearbox be sure to ensure that the end of the cable is aligned with the 'female' part in the gearbox otherwise it's a b4rsteward getting the plastic thread on the cable-side to line-up properly. It's easy to start turning but the threads jam up v.quickly (TIGHT) if it's misaligned and it becomes a b4gger all of a sudden.
Just thought I'd chip in with that cos I had to do this job when I put my converter in on my MY93WRX and it was a bit 'fiddly' to say the least! Totally do-able though.....
Cheers
