Have read a few posts with comments that if your STi is de-catted and not re-mapped, this can cause problems. What sort of problems or immplications. My STi has been de-catted since I bought it and no problems so far and this includes some runs at the Pod.
Thanks in advance.

UK or JDM? If JDM, then I believe it is to do with our cr4p fuel, and the fact that the car is mapped for 100 RON fuel. So, when you decat and get more air in, and are using lower grade fuel than the car is mapped for, det WILL occur!
Just my understanding, waiting to save enough for a decat and re-map of my MY99 STi 5 Type R!

If you're looking for STi7 or STi8 infos, there's a similar thread there: http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=204366

from the advice I have been given, I would recomend that you don't decat an JDM STI engine without remapping.
As was said previously, decatting will significantly improve the airflow. Taking this into account plus the fact that we try and replicate the Jap fuel (sometimes succesfully, sometimes not) and the fact that these cars are already on the limit......det will pretty much be certain. Maybe not all the time, but occasionally. (i.e. crap fuel, hot day).
I know others on here have decats running the std Jap map, but its your risk. I would at least make sure you have a knock link fitted at minimum.
I am by no means an expert, but I have bought an STI5 TypeR and have been researching heavily. I will be leaving my cat and std air filter in place until I have money for a remap.
