MAP Sensor. Clean or new??
Hi all
I have had a boost creeping problem for a while and someone recently suggested to me it could be the Map sensor causing this. I have done a search and now know what it looks like and where it is. I just need to know if it advisable to clean it? if so what would be the best way? If not and I have to buy a new one where would be my best bet? Is getting a used one OK or is it best to get a new one?
Lots of questions I know but I'm thick as mince me!!

If you mean the MAF sensor
then open the top of the airbox and spray a quick squirt (after shaking can well) of Brake cleaner (Unipart can be bought from Halfords @ around £5.00) upwards towards the MAF sensor whilst holding the car at approx 3,000 revs...
This should clean it but DON'T spray too much
Good luck

No, I think the means MAP sensor as was said... (as in Mass Air Pressure - the thing that tells the ECU what boost pressure you're running)
It can be cleaned with brake cleaner, but I'd say do the solenoid bits around it first (and the pipework) to see if that cures it.
There are 2 solenoids - wastegate and pressure exchange. Do them both, and note how the pipes fit BEFORE you take it apart...
Again, searching for "cleaning solenoids" might get you some pics.

Not heard of the MAP sensor causing Boost creep before but it is more likely the MAP (which monitors boost) than the MAF (which monitors airflow).
I suppose the pipe that feeds the MAP may be contaninated with oil which is usually solved by squirting brake cleaner down it, and other associated Boost control pipework including the Boost solenoid, and then going for a drive.

Cheers people
Will try and clean it tonight.
I have removed the boost control solenoid from the equation by fitting a dawes device but still creeping.... Just going to try the map sensor before anything more drastic.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks again
