Decat and lambda sensor
Recently got my first scoobie (import 94), had it decatted before picking it up.
However power delivery isnt what it should be and the car is over boosting. Taken to a couple of local garages just to turn the boost down a touch until I get chance to get her pro tuned somewhere and neither will touch it as the lambda sensor isnt connected. Brand new one in the decat, but not connected to anything wires are just bundled round the top of it.
Can anyone confirm what I think in that this is a right ***** up (the lambda should always be connected) and is probably the cause of my problems ??? or am I missing something here ???

Thanks John pretty much as I thought, fully intending to get both sorted PDQ, obviously not too chuffed that a car I picked up on Saturday has these problems hence the post to confirm what I thought before I make an anrgy phone call.
Get everything working, get a knocklink and boost gauge and always run the car on Optimax or SUL plus octane booster.
Suspension geometry is something I like to get checked on a 2nd hand car also.

Not sure to be honest, although hopefully your right, if you could tell me where to look \ what to look for I would love to know, obviously sh*tting a brick about driving it any where with out the lambda connected, if it is then it just needs re tuning.

Maybe in using a downpipe with a boss for the lambda sensor in the later position they thought they would just block it? I always forget that the lambdas are in the headers in the early cars.
Booked in for a full tune on the rolling road at powerstation next wednesday, I guess that should get to the bottom of any problems.
Will they remap that ecu in doing that or is that a completely seperate task ?
Thanks for the advice guys.

If you stand at the front of the car.... at the left front of the engine bay is where the lambda should be. Get under the car and look there.... you should see coming out of the heat shields three wires.

Lambda should be connected or it could run way too rich, fail emissions, and more worryingly coke up your engine with carbon and degrade your oil quality, as well as give horrendous economy.
The overboost is a separate issue - either/or the freer breathing system or oiled up boost control system.
Sort them both PDQ. Don't allow the car to overboost otherwise you may well be damaging the engine.
Don't take your time to learn about how to treat/modify an early WRX. They blow up regularly because people tune them on an inadequate budget and slap things on them without good monitoring. Don't join this unhappy crew.
