Question

My P1 is 18 months/15k miles old ... I've noticed a few times lately then when doing a full-on 1st-2nd redline gearchange that there seems to always be a slight crunch on the way into 2nd. Sometimes it'll even crunch badly and require a second attempt to get it into gear.

Now, is this me being a cr*p driver... is this a known issue ... should it allow me to do this... or should I take it into my local dealer and make them sort it out?

Another quick question - is the box the same as one used in any other models (I believe it's an STi one)?

All advice / tips appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a synchro problem

Had them all replaced on my P1, at various different times.

Quite a common fault.

I had the same problem on my P1 at 13k miles. This is a common fault on the P1, take it to your local dealer and insist they carry out the gearbox mod to remedy it (something to do with a nut on the end of one of the shafts). It should not crunch into second, and no they don't all do that! If you still have no joy with them, I suggest calling Lancaster in Pangbourne (who did mine) they assured me this was a common fault on P1 (and all Turbo 2000) gearboxes.

Thanks guys... excellent advice (as ever!).

She's due a service in around a month. I'll discuss it with the garage then. Cheers.

Try REDLINE'S MT90 gearoil, if the problem is not to far with the syncros, MT90 will probably solve the problem and it will provide smoother gearchange, especially when cold, and also provide ecxellent protection.
