Why doesn't everyone try to get rid of the awful resonator section too? That always gets missed.
Helps with performance.

Ditto the comments of Scratch -
I currently run on MY96 Wagon:
PPP Backbox (P1 Backbox = IMHO, Extremely high quality build [I've personally not seen the same level of manufacture from any other supplier] - sensible sound level [nice boxer sound but not intrusive] - increased gas flow & hence performance)
Magnex Decat Centre without resonator - personally would have purchased with resonator if available at the time (I'm led to believe it does reduce intrusive sound at motorway speeds - but does not affect the low rev. boxer sound we all love - or performance).
Would personally recommend the above combination.
Next on the agenda for me - Downpipe Decat or Downpipe with Highflow-sports cat (to increase performance but retain MOT pass).

I am thinking of taking out the centre cat, but as I do quite a lot of motorway miles I was woundering if there was a big increase
of noise heard in the car.
Thanks for any information/advice.

Fitted a Scoobysport decat centre on to my 98 classic wagon. No noticable change in interior noise level with the standard backbox on, although it did enhance the boxer sound a very small amount when the car was stationary.
Now have it also coupled upto PPP backbox, which IMO gives the best of both worlds. Quiet when cruising, LOUD when giving it some right foot - and that's in a 5 door too - all others I'd tried boomed inside the car 1at 75mph.

Had WR Sport BB,
Fitted ScoobySport decat centre and straight through pipe to replace the nasty resonator.
Not much increase in noise at all.
Bummer cause I wanted some!!
Downpipe next!
Go for it, you know you want to!
