what should be the rev limit on my 1998 WRX Import. I screams quite happily past 8,000 revs butI hear that 7,500 is the limit. Is this correct? - thanks

should be 7000, unless it's been chipped, or is in fact an RA version, which doesn't have a rev limiter at all on some years!

short of opening the ECU case and looking for an add on board I don't really know. Boost is already quite high on the wrx so I don't know if you would notice a chipped version by checking the boost levels.

All cars have a rev limited, even a type RA!!! No Scooby should rev over 8000rpm unless you've had all your internals upgraded!

Could be that your rev counter is faulty!!!

96 wrx RA has a rev limit in excess of 7500 (car in question wasn't revved much higher and no limit has yet been encountered)

the Sti has a 8000rpm redline on the tacho and the actual rev limiter at 8250rpm

Automatics WRX go up to 9,000rpm on the dail. never had it past 8,000 rpm, bloody thing keeps changing gear. even with power button pressed in. But if you hold 3rd and power then you can do the 112mph (speed limiter then cuts in) still under the 8,000rpm

The red line on the car starts at 7500 but it does keep revving past this, I think to 8250 (although I have only done it once, just to see where the limiter is).

Is there a way using engine numbers to determine if this is the standard WRX engine or a replacement has been put in? - thanks
