Two questions
1)For the guys who have made their own. There is a pipe from the boost solenoid that goes into the inlet pipe close to the induction side. How do you replumb this if you make up your own?
2)Anyone got a web link showing the STi(aftermarket)inlet pipe?

Thanks,Deep.

Christian.I've got a STi7,will it still fit? What is the ID at the turbo end? Is this the one that I heard was 'collapsing'

The pipe i think you refer to...

I made my own inlet pipe (which you've probably seen on other threads) and the pipe from my boost solenoid refits into the silicone hose which my K&N air filter bolts to.

Last night, however, i have plumbed this pipe to go into the inlet manifold, though unsure if it is okay to do this. Will try and it and see, don't see any reason for it to make a difference.

If I am not mistaken Alan, what you have done is connect the inlet manifold to the wastegate actuator diaphragm when the solenoid is energized in the "mark" areas of the duty cycle.

So your mark-space pressure difference at the actuator will be very low - just the pressure drop from the compressor outlet to the inlet manifold. This bodes badly for control unless I missed something.

By venting the 3 port to the inlet pipe you have a pressure always lower or similar to atmospheric. Switching between this and the compressor outlet pressure source gives wide control bandwidth = good boost control.

Not tried the config you suggest but unless I am mistaken (quite possible) it doesn't make any sense at all.

Which Inlet pipe did Christian go for after scrapping the Samco one

Just asking as I will need to change the inlet pipe (red sti one) when I change the turbo and didnt really want a Samco one on.... do MRT do custom ones?

think he went for a custom made one, using Samco hoses (reducer + 90° etc.)

External vent would potentially lose that tiny bit of gas raising the pressure in the inlet and so reducing PR Probably insignficant along with the MAF misread (wouldn't bother Alan running Link though).

What I would find more interesting is that there is suction in the inlet manifold which is going to give a wider control bandwidth on the 3 port. Occasionally you do need a maximum duty cycle in some situations and a small suction would do more to keep the wastegate nice and shut.

Maybe we should talk it through on the phone, but I'm pretty sure what you are suggesting is not going to work.

Alan sorry to be dim but how exactly do you plumb the pipe into the Samco hosing.I presume the Samco has no inlets built into it.
Carlos thank you.Where did you get the pics from?
MYP,the AVO pipe is still standard 57(?)mm at the turbo end so will not fit onto the turbo I have in mind which is 75mm

75mm :O ..... you have to start looking at making your own intake pipe.

P20SPD,

You know, you are right to be suprised... 75mm does sound a bit restrictive. An extra 5mm is just about adequate, but larger would be better

So if both the STi and the AVO aftermkt pipes are still std at the turbo end what is it about them that is actually better than std?

Alan ... plumbing into the inlet pipe ... what are you going to do about the boost pressure that will return up the vent pipe and stop the pressure escaping from the actuator as the solenoid duty cycle varies as its supposed to do ? That will nullify the boost control. The vent pipe is supposed to vent to atmosphere .... only reason it returns to the intake is to keep it emmissions friendly (oil vapour etc).

as a thought

Bob
