Do you know the damage that occurred to the car? E.g. was the front bump caused by a failure elsewhere, e.g. no oil in the gearbox and the whole thing seized up, or broken gear, or something? Can the car be pushed in neutral? Can you start the engine? etc. etc...
Good luck...

car can be pushed in neutral but gearstick has slight sideways movement but no back or forth to gears
ouch if its selector forks , is this gearbox strip job?
cars dont bump when in neutral so how come its not in gear , no marks on tyres to suggest box siezed.

had customers car before that had this fault and the salvage company had selected neutral to enable the car to be manouvered.........turned out to be a smashed linkage!

"sneaky low trick"........no, if you're referring to my post it was just a matter of making the car more mobile (maybe it didn't read right) - the mechanism was smashed in a head-on bump not by the salvage company!!
