after fitting my scoobysport open neck dp the other week and not fitted the origional heat shielding around it ,i thought it best to have some sort of heat shield around it.

remembering my rally days a few years back,(mini cooper)i used cool tech exhaust wrap all round the manifold and to the base of my downpipe and noticed a good drop in temp under the bonnet and worked quite well with the mud ,water and oil getting on it.

so off to the performance shop down the road and i bought some.

i used 10 meters to do the job properly from around the neck down to the joint of the centre section.

its very akward to do the job on the car without ramps but is a worthwhile modification, keeping the heat down, keeping noise down ,and getting a few more pops/bangs/flames from the back end if you are into that sort of thing.

after to follow tommorow.....

Looks good matey !

I may bring myself to attempt something like this one day, I had the oem heat sheild modified to fit over my SS downpipe; however, I guess it wouldn't hurt to lag the downpipe as well.

Good stuff !

One thing to mention is that it's worth wearing a mask when you take that stuff off because the glass fibres go everywhere. There's a ceramic fibre variety available too, if you ever need to lag the really hot stuff. J

i got my lagging from a local performance centre not far from where i live.

http://www.m-p-c.demon.co.uk/

lots of places stock it,demon tweeks, etc etc or you can by it online from the manufacturers

http://www.cooltek.co.uk/

10 meters should cost around £15-£20
now 10 meters may sound too much, but believe me it was near as a perfect length as could be.

notice on the pics how i ended the run of lagging with a stainless jubilee pipe clipsecuring the end to stop fraying.

and yes this suff can irritate the skin, not as bad as loft insulation ,but wear thin rubber gloves if poss.

oh ,,dont do this while the exhaust is still hot,,like i did
but i am very impatient and stupid

I would still put the hea shield back on, especially if you are running a TMIC.

Few dents in your downpipe! what did you fit it with? a hammer?

I lagged the downpipe and 10metres didn't even get to the bottom

I was lagging for noise reduction..

Does pop and bang though which I didn't expect with standa DV etc..

Just lagged mine with the CoolTek stuff 50mm x 10m. It too was near perfect length and cut down on quite a bit of the noise.

Although not all, so I may have to get another 5m, as most of the tinny/ringing noise seems to come from the lower half.

Anyone else noticed this ?
