short-term gearbox replacement-should clutch be done too?
since john banks has admitted to eating third gear,I am posting this to find out if I am going over the top.
we have sourced another box (cheers alan,hope you do not need one yourself too soon
),so on saturday we are going to fit it .JB's car has done 30000miles,about 5 track days and god knows how many thrashes getting mapped,(daily
),and AP22'ed.
the problem is JB thinks I am taking the p155 by wanting to throw in an uprated clutch and flywheel while we are at it,as in a few months he plans to rebuild the engine and get a stronger gear set anyway.this in theory sounds fine but when he asks "can we fit the MRT inlet pipe and up-pipe on saturday too and then map the car within an inch of it's life",possibly fitting a blitz exhaust to get every last ounce out of it and then maybe go down to well lane on sunday and another rolling road day the following week,all I can think of is his standard clutch packing in within a few hours of replacing the box

he has never had the clutch slipping under use,although when he drives it up my ramps you can smell it.he has now got me thinking that we should just risk it
as I am going to a m8's garage to make life easier,I want the car in and out as quick as possible,so at least want the new clutch and fly wheel here,so that if his clutch looks bu66ered we do not waste time looking for replacements on the day.
the thing is,when he lost third,he was in the middle of testing his car and looked like getting 300bhp at the wheels in 4th,so what chance has an old clutch got?
so what do you think,am I asking for too much when he is going to need to get one eventually anyway.

My experience with scoob clutches is that they degrade gradually.
My cars clutch has had a ton of abuse and it only started to make its feelings known under hard launches. It was still holding 345lb-ft quite happily in gear.
Even my new 450lb-ft clutch spins on a hard launch rather than break traction. Not sure that it should though
If you pull the box and find the clutch is fugged, you can have my old one, it's only 1/2 fugged !!!
PS Alan might prefer that a HD clutch is not used on his box

I know that when mine slipped every lap of k/hill,pulling out the hairpin,it was fine for weeks on the road and could not be replicated.I heard of one car that the owner suspected of needing a clutch and as soon as it was "loaded up",slipped and as good as stopped the car in it's tracks until replaced,perhaps he had just ignored it for as long as possible.these cars only have 230lbf/ft though

High rolling rentals and within inches of life. My kind of stuff 
Waiting to see if Mark can do the clutch in time, poor guy I bet he gets so many "urgent" requests, bit like a GP, emergency acne consultation, emergency sore toe

the cars getting an up-pipe and inlet pipe too and then a remap and few runs with his delta dash rolling road thing and then some more runs to make sure and then some more boost to see if we start loosing power like last time and then back on the ramps to fit that spare AP you have
Seriously though, the clutch was fine before the box went, so no reason to say it's gonna go after you change the box.
The engine has to come out anyway when it's built, so best starting off with all new components.

the clutch has never had this much power and torque though
