Unhappy

I think my car is poorly.

When accelerating in 4th gear from say 2000rpm, when the rev counter hits 3000rpm the power shuts off approx half second then returns as normal.

This only ever happens in 4th gear at 3000rpm. The car is difficult to start, a bit sluggish in the morning and and less so when when warm.

I'm fearing a lambda sensor is on its way out but I'm not sure as my last experience of lambda sensor failure the hesitation was present in all gears and through out the rev range.

Any ideas?
Andy.

Is this on WOT?

AFAIK, lambda is only being used by the ECU in closed-loop (say when cruising or at idle).

nah, no WOT 'ing going on but close. More like over taking a single car kinda acceleration.

edited to add.

When i do WOT, it happens everytime in 4th and also in 3rd. 1st and 2nd are okay.

The best way to describe it is that its like the rev limiter comes in but I'm only doing 3000rpm in 4th or 3500-ish rpm in 3rd.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I don't want to just drop this on my dealer without some idea of any possible reasons.

Cheers
Andy.

You are hitting the fuel-cut! The boost is reaching a point which is too high and the ECU cuts the fuel support, to save the engine and to warn the owner.

It can have several reasons, mostly it´s due to oil in the hoses to the wastegate solenoid (and in the solenoid itself). Cleaning with brake cleaner could help. I have also seen a few cars where the hose from the T-piece to the solenoid was damaged. (the hose was hardened out due to heat and then it breaks near to the T-piece)

Mark,

I've done a search on ScoobyNet and this seems the most likely explanation of my problem.

I was wondering could the blockage be due to water?

The reason I ask is I got caught in a flood (head-light deep) just before Christmas. I can't see water getting in there but I'm usually wrong.

Thanks.
Andy.
