I have an MY97 with full decat and a Dawes set to 1 bar, tailing off to about 0.8 bar at around 6000 rpm. I'm running a home made AFR meter and its running nice and rich. I'm very tempted to get a Dawes FCD and running 1.2 bar in the midrange. Now I know John Banks is going to tell me that the Dawes FCD is cr@p and I need to get a knocklink. But in all honesty £££s are a bit tight at the moment and the Dawes FCD is nice and cheap at £30. Is it really going to be that dangerous at 1.2 bar with just a home made AFR meter and Dawes FCD?

It will probably be OK, but I would rather not say probably when it comes to detonation. If things are tight the last thing you want is "Detonation Danny" drilling holes in your pistons. With the Dawes the ECU cannot pull the boost down if it sees detonation. Above 5500 RPM it is probably not listening for it anyway.

I know your right John, It'll cost me more than the price of a knocklink to get my engine rebuilt. I don't know, I'm probaly best off getting a knocklink in a couple of weeks when I have some spare cash.
