Hi

I have a 95 WRX.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips for improving the spoolup of the TD05 turbo.

I have the usual breathing mods done, induction kit, exhaust + downpipe, manifold.

Is the up-pipe worth changing and what to ?

Is the front entry mod worth the hassle, would it give the biggest gains ? has anyone got some more detailed information on how to perform this mod, where do you get the spacers from etc.

Can an ecu map be optimised to reduce lag ?

I am currently getting about 0.5 bar by 3000RPM, is this any good ?

Thanks in advance

Yes, yes, Turbo Dynamics, Yes, No.

Front entry with std uppipe on MY00 with standard inlet pipe but induction kit, 2.5" exhaust I get 1 bar at 2700 RPM in 4th gear held back on the brakes, 3000 RPM in 4th gear if not held back on the brakes.

Interesting John, that's only 100rpm less than my Maxim

On the 95 I guess front entry is a bit more complicated 'cos you have to raise the manifold, but it's defintely worth it - I never realised the elbow caused so much restriction. At what revs do you get 1 bar in 4th?

Thumbs up

Hi,

Just had a Link ECU fitted to mine with standard TD05 (still 90 degree) and a full 3" system from Turbo back and FMIC.

Before it was Lagsville, Tennessee.

At 4000 rpm the turbo would go "oh, you want me do you? Go on then if I must!"

Now I've got a bar of boost between 3000 and 3200 and it goes on to peak at 1.5 - 1.6 bar!
With my ultra low RA box, it's awesome.

It's a fair few quid for the ECU swap but WELL WELL worth it.

Cheers

Rich

On my Legacy, with TD05, DIY ported manifolds/heads, DIY Up-pipe, 3" Mongoose exhaust, I get 1 bar at 2700rpm in 5th. Still 90 degree elbow. 1 bar is acheived at higher revs in lower gears, but usually always by 3000rpm ( Using Blitz SBC for boost control ). I am only using 1 bar.
Although It has 1 bar boost at 3000rpm, it still doesnt really pull til 5000rpm. It goes, but it goes much better after 5000...
