Get a distinct tappety sound from my car between 1500 and 2200 RPM both when hot and cold. Not sure if it continues after these revs cause the engine noise blocks it out anyway.

Is this so-called piston slap that i hear baout, and if so what does this mean????? And if it is, is it a problem that i need to get sorted under the extended warranty????

 

Subaru fixed my 98 when I had one, under warranty.
If you have an extended warranty, it shouldn't be a problem.

The car was still noisy afterwards, and it was found that the cambelt tensioner was bust also. The dealer tried to charge me, but didnt succeed.

I haven't heard of anybody having to pay, as it is a known problem
