Help! - Loud Squelling
Just set off this morning got a few hundred yards to the traffic lights. Pulled away and a very loud Squelling noise could be heard from the engine like the fan belt was slipping. Pulled over and had a look and as far as i coould tell it was not the fan belt there was also a slight smell of burning rubber.
I just had the my cam belt replaced at my 3 year service and also the tensioner could it be anything to do with this?
Thanks
Nick

All adds up to the fan belt slipping (loosing drive to the steering pump is the clue)
After a cold start the alternator is pushing a lot of charge into the battery and therefore its resistance to turn is far greater. These belts need to be surprisingly tight as there is a lot of turning resistance from both alternator and steering pump under certain conditions.

Thanks John had a look and the bolt that tightens the fan belt has fallen out so that explains it. I presume they have to take this off when they change the cambelt so i bet they did not tighten the bolt up tight enough.
Thanks.
Thanks.
