My mate thinks less than 20K on a clutch is disgusting, his 911 has got 79K on it and still going strong.

Every Scooby i have had (3) has had a clutch with less thamn 20K on it.

What do you Scooby owners think ? should we all buy Porsche or give our dealers a hard time as the rest of the warranty is 60K

Please don't move this thread as this is the most reliable area for replies

It's a common problem when cold.
Nothing serious.
A quick blast when the car is warm cures it.
I've had no probs on mine since I upgraded to a P1 clutch I have to say tho.

My last car - 1996 Nissan 200 SX 200bhp turbo - had 89k on the original clutch when I sold it and it was still going strong.

If nissan can do it why can't subaru?

My dealer stated it was because they are not allowed to use Asbesdos anymore .... So how does that make a difference ... everyone else gets it right ! ? ! ?

They don't use asbestos to build houses any more, but mine don't judder. Lets face it, it is a design flaw that for some bizzar reason Subaru/IM can't be a??ed to do anything about.

At the end of the day, we love Subaru's because they are different, and with that you take the rough with the smooth - I'm not saying we should accept this weak point but from someone who used to drive 2CV's for fun, the compromise is is worth it.

I'm on my 3rd Scoob and only the current one has clutch judder (only when cold). 2nd car was/is (still got it) import and 1st was boggo 1.8 - still had perfectly good original clutch when sold at 120k miles!

I have this problem with my MY01 at the moment, definately when its cold and even sometimes when its warm and I am pulling away gently from the lights with 1-1.5k revs!
Asked my dealer to check it last week while it was in for an oil change, he could not find anything wrong and sods law when he tested it when I was in the car it did not do it!!
Saying that I have only had the car for 14000km and its now up to 40,000km so I guess a clutch replacement is possible after this amount of km depending on how it was driven by the previous owner, although the previous owner was the dealership director and I think he looked after the car.

Regards,

John.

My dealer has agreed to replace the clutch without question as it still under the 20K warranty
