Dump Valve Leaking - consequences?
I have been hearing a "whoo-whooing" type of noise of late, like the infamous blowing over the top of a coke bottle. I assume its the BOV leaking slightly, but my boost still builds very well.
Question is - if a OEM recirc type BOV is leaking air back to the intake (upstream of the turbocharger), will the engine be running slightly rich or lean?

Your car may not reach target boost if the available duty cycle is not generous or you are in a lower gear in hot conditions. Your turbo may spin faster with a leak to get the required pressure ratio - leading to increased EGT because of back pressure and increased charge temperature because of lower turbine efficiency. Your turbo could also stretch a blade, compressor wheel cavitate and fill your intercooler and worse your engine with little bits.
Not to be pessimistic or anything, but bitter experience has shown me not to tolerate even the slightest hint of a leak! Arguably not as much of an issue with a recirc DV, but still an issue. And of course the effects above are also in Mrs Beaton's special recipe book for "Detonation & other dishes"
