Its a bit difficult to tell if its a full system and how close the microphone and its position was to the exhaust but it sounds a lot the sound mine makes. I run a standard dwonpipe, straight thru TSL centre and a scoobysport backbox.
AFAIK you cant fit the scoobysport impreza exhaust on a legacy not sure if there is one for the legacy.

I have at the moment standard downpipe and mid section and a scoobysport backbox and mine sounds very similar but that seems to have an extra rasp to it.. it could just be because obviously I am in the car but I would guess that might be a full system?
The backbox seems to make the most difference though as Pavlo says..
Legacy should sound the same... essentially the same engine..
and Scoobysport do sell the exhausts for the Legacy..

What aboout if just the downpipe was changed? I really do not want an exhaust that is so unsubtle? I was thinking of losing the cats, but keeping a normal backbox? Will it be loud?

The backbox is the only silencer really.. the cats take up some power and a little bit of noise but most is done but the backbox.
If you remove just the cats you will get a bit of power but it will be held back by the restrictive backbox.. there are some quiet performance backboxes about.. just not sure which is quietest.. try posting another thread asking that.
Personnally the sound is part of it for me and with the race system on my bike I want the Scooby to be louder.. de-cat happening after Christmas..

Kewl.
I feel a call to Heyward & Scott coming on. (AFTER christmas!)
Maybe not quite as good as the new Janspeed exhaust, but more than enough for my ageing legacy. APPARENTLY they do a loud and quiet version of the system for the legacy turbo.

Pete had a raspy backbox on their legacy, though not sure if it was one of theirs.
I'd certainly be after a quiet one next year, which Knowesly tells me the new ones are definitely quieter, retaining the burble at idle, but losing the boominess at speed.

I've recently added the SS uppipe and downpipe to my MY01 with PPP. Apart from the turbo whine (like a dentist's drill according to the missus) there's a lot of whooshing coming from the back end when I've got my foot down. I'm guessing this is normal but it would be great if someone could confirm, as I've heard the same sort of noise coming from leaky systems in the distant past!
Cheers,
Gareth

Gareth,
I get something similar.. If I stand next to the rear door handle the exhaust at tickover is louder there and at the back..
but looking underneath there is no leaking gas.. so not sure whether the noise is leaking through the silencer perhaps?
When I swap the rest of the exhaust in the new year I shall fit new gaskets and see if it makes a different..
