Extra oil change on a STi 7

I like many of you think the 10,000 service interval is too long between oil changes so I am off to the dealer today to have one done ( car now done 5K )
How much did your dealer charge you for this ?
Mine want.......
Half hour labour £30
Oil £20
Sump plug £ ?
Oil Filter £ ?
All plus VAT

I think 10k is to long, get mine done every 2.5k for engine oil, 5k for gearbox and will have the diff oils done at 10k intervals. Best to be safe than sorry.
I started this exercise when I had my P1 and it definitely made the car run smoother and better getting the fluids changed regularly. Isn't the cheapest excercise but am planning on keeping the Sti7 in the family for a long time.

I had the "free" service done at 1k miles, and then the oil and filter changed at 6k miles.
The cost for the oil change was "£0.00", as I supplied my own oil. The car was up on the ramps to get some warranty work done on it (NSR strut and top mount to cure the knocking noise), so I wasn't charged any labour. I asked to pay for the filter and washer, but was kindly informed that these were "complimentary"
Had the oil changed again at the 10k service (10.6k miles actually), which worked out at about £70 as again I supplied my own oil.

What oil do you use in your STi. My dealer put in Shell Helix at 5500 mile oil change, which I think is a semi-synthetic, so I will probably supply a fully synthetic oil for the next time. What do you recommend?

I've also been advised that if your going to drive the card 'briskly' or if it will see track days run 15W50.
One of the GTP guys down here running a 02STI (admittedly, its a JDM 02 STI with a MOTEC no rev limit running 1.4bar!) mentioned they were having issues (problems when they stripped the engine down at 10,000km) with 10W40.
Just a thought.

The general consensus seems to be, run semi-synth until 8000 miles or so to give the engine a chance to get fully run in. Then switch to fully synth for better protection. Fully synth will apparently prevent the running in process working fully so semi-synth is recommended until then.
