The biggest thing going for the APS (although this is ignoring the performance issue!) is how tough it is - the vanes are very strong & unlikely to get bent, whereas the HKS is rather more delicate. But obviously you can use some sort of mesh in front of the HKS... it just slows the flow

surely no one can as people would have bought one and not the other.

OK to help.

craig hardmans car was very fast, and he had the aps.

bob rawle who has probably mapped with all kinds has the aps.

But trouts car runs the hks and he gets into the 350+ bhp club, and am not sure bob has yet. (probably by now though)

Tim Ws car has an HKS, and his proved v quick and also got high bhps.

I had the choice. Had aps on order, but delivery time put me off. That is not a problem now.

But in the meantime, I ordered and bought the HKS. APS is black, HKS isnt, both tube and fin, so not convinced HKS is any weaker than aps.

I went for HKS in the end because the core is sligthly bigger, and half the pipe work suited the position of my turbo, meaning I would not have to have as much fabricated as I would with the APS.

Also would not be too happy running upwards of 2 bar with the silicon tubing. Am sure it could take it, but I dont like the fact that it does expand at high boost.

However, less likely to rattle since it is softer than the steel that comes with the HKS.

HKS pipework looks cheap and comes in nasty matt finish. You can go to rc developments and they will supply you a nice shiny alternative.

Hope this helps.

In short 6 of one and half a dozen of the other.

Saying that Alan McRaes car, is the most powerful I know of on the rolling road at 360+ and that has the much smaller cusco intercooler, and then there is mark aigins, which used the bar and plate design MRT which is far far smaller than both those you are considering, and managed to be far more powerful than anything discussed here.

Just a point, the aps can be had in alloy look, ie not black.

I personally think the black aps looks good on mine, because you could mistake it for a normal scoob

Both APS and HKS need fairly major cutting on the bumper to fit but this is not a problem. The APS kit has a template for what its worth. As Steve says APS cmes in silver or black and IMHO has sturdier fins and can be run without a mesh protector.
My APS runs at ambient +2 cent. in the cruise up to 4krpm and works well but I think there are potential issues with the silicone pipework chaffing and wearing through if not inspected regularly.
I cannot give as detailed an account for the HKS but if I were replacing my FMIC in the future I would consider Hyperflow as a possible alternative to APS.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I have an APS FMIC + cold air kit for M/Y 01 brand new if anybody is interested.

I think it does, as I believe Jerry (Secret agent man) has one fitted to his left hooker.

Cool

As far as I can determine RHD and Lhd are the same but check with APS or Jw Racing.
I have M/Y 00 on my STi 6 and the item for sale for M/Y 01 is a different animal. Sorry.
