Downpipe backpressure question
#1
Can someone answer this for me ?
The car is the Forester T/tb 1998-WRX engine-260bhp
If I decat the downpipe I release another 20 bhp BUT does this engine need the cat in order to create backpressure to the turbo/engine? so it runs correctly ?
Will removing the cat cause ECU/management problems ?
Anyone????
Thanks
Brian

Back pressure for any turbo car is not needed.... i dont know about a further 20 bhp from a down pipe but it will give you a noticable increase in torqure...
An example, a few of us scoobynet lot went to a rolling road day at chesterfield...
My car is an MY95 WRX and has a straight through centre section, blitz nur spec back box, and a blitz induction kit: My car made 261bhp and 237 lb-ft... the lad after me had a MY95 WRX with a 'decat downpipe', mongoose exhaust and a K&N induction kit his car made 268bhp and 265lb-ft...!!!
