O2 sensor problems????

Hi,
on my 94WRX i have fitted an Autometer AFR as a matter of precaution. all has been well until recently. once the car get quite warm, ie after a spirited drive the readings on the AFR seem erratic.
sometimes it will read well rich on full throttle as it should do, and dance around on closed map readings, and then once the car gets hot it seems to go pretty much static in the middle of the readings?
Will i benifit from moving the sensor to the downpipe as fitted to later cars or does it sound like i need a new senseor?
