Has anyone had any experience of fitting a Magnex downpipe to a "classic" shape turbo, as I'm thinking of buying one? A mate bought one of the first ones to be manufactured by Magnex and had to do a fair bit of modification to one of the brackets to get it to fit, is this still the case or is it just a bolt up job?

Glen,

Dunno about magnex, but in general downpipes are straightforward as long as nothing goes wrong. Things that can and do go wrong are bolts shearing and leaving you with a trouble or things being crossthreaded and causing hassle.

I did mine myself, with guidance from David Wallis, but needed help when it came to getting the lambda sensor out. Subaru had cross-threaded the original fitting, so it needed teasing out and back into the new downpipe gently.

Fun. Not.

So those are the general bits to look out for.
Nick.

I tried to fit a magnex to my 00 model and lets just say it wouldn't fit properly so they checked it in the jig as it was some way out and sent it back saying all was ok but hey it still wouldn't fit so the nice folks at magnex gave me a full refund after it had been sat in my garage for 4 months before i retried it,top people for doing that,it was one of the later batch pipes as well.I now have a ss downpipe on that is a lot quieter than the magnex was,a bit too quiet really as you really knew the magnex was there and the ss sounds pretty tame, not enough whistling etc.
