Question

Hi all,

Please advise the best way to tap into a power source (mechanical light only, no power needed for 'sender' etc) for a boost guage.

Diagrams or pics would be great. I obviously want to tap into a source that turns the boost guage light on when I turn the headlighst on and off when I turn the heasdlights off. I want to remove the least amount of paneling as possible

Cheers,
Ray

Buy yourself an electrical circuit tester for use on 12V, the one with a sharp point on one end, and a croc clip on the other.
Find a suitable earth, and clip to it (Hint: a length of cable wrapped around battery earth is the best bet- then you're sure.) Test by touching to a known live, eg: battery positive. Then you won't be f*cking about trying to get it to work without a proper earth.
Remove trim panel from below steering wheel shroud, find the cables going up the left side to the light/dipswitch, and turning the lights on first, pierce each one until you find one that lights your tester. You don't have to stick it in far, just through the insulation. Now check it's switched by turning the lights off to see if the tester goes off. When you've found it, link/tap into it using a "Scotchlok" type connector, the red ones are best on the thin wires on a Scooby.

Isn't there a wire that goes to the radio that will do this ? My radio changes display brightness when the headlights are turned on and I'm sure I remember a wire labelled lighting or something similar in the wiring to it.

Or you can take a live from the ciggarette lighter, this has a light on it that becomes live when you switch the lights on, or the heater controls.....
