I have a 94 WRX at the moment that jumps out of 5th gear, I understand that its the loose nut inside the box thats causing the problem. Does anybody know if the job can be done without rmoving the gearbox. I remember Scoobyboy posting on here that it can and takes a couple of hours but has anyone actually done it or had any experience of it.

Cheers

yep it can be done insitu you just have to remove the cross member that the gearbox sits on and the biggest pain is manouvering the casings around to get them out.
the only thing you may have a prob with is the bottom shaft on the gearbox is a shaft inside a shaft if you know what i mean and there is a special tool that slides over them and locks the two together to stop them turning, also get the two gaskets that usally rip otherwise you may find that it drips oil .
