Question

Not had it into a workshop yet, but following my post yesterday, general consensus is that it's oil seals in the turbo.

Trying to work out how much this is going to dent me for, so where's good to get a price on an exchange unit?

MY99 UK so a TD04 I believe.

TIA,

Chris.

If it is just oil seals then Turbo Dynamics can replace them for you - about £40 each IIRC, but with the faff of taking it all off you may as well put a proper turbo on. Speak to Mark Aigin.

Don't intend doing anything else to the car (currently has full de-cat), so advantages of hybrid over staying with OE spec?

About to e-mail Mark.

Cheers,

Chris

Other downside of not going OE is I expect insurance will want to ruck me more cash...

If the turbo recon place just uses your original turbo and changes the impellor/bearing e.t.c... how the hell will the insurance company be able to tell..?? and why would you tell them... no insurance person will be able to say oh, "thats got a 360 degree thrust bearing and a larger impellor wheel were not paying out for your claim...."

Just my 2p worth

True, I'm just a cynical bugger though.

Would a hybrid be more reliable than the OE spec?

A word of WARNING !!!!!!!!

If anyone decides to go with a hybrid (which is unidentifyable) unless stripped down by an expert, DON'T TALK ABOUT IT ON THE BBS.

I know of two cases, where this BBS is being used by ins' co', and another authority, to find evidence, to void an ins' policy.

Mark.
