5th gear problem
#1
hi folks,
i've recently bought a 2000 awd turbo and am having a few problems with 5th gear ..... all the other gears are fine (apart from me crunching it in to 2nd a couple of times!), but to get the thing into 5th, I often have to double de-clutch. It also sometimes pops out of 5th. Any ideas on what it could be?
thanks in advance,
Joe

Apparently there is a nut on the mainshaft in the box that on some cars wasn't being done up tight enough for whatever reason, it sounds like this may be your problem, I hope it's a uk car, cos you need to find a friendly dealer to fix it for you!

Hi Ron, yes it's a UK car and there is a dealer near me apparently (2 miles or so away!) ... I think I'm gonna get the thing booked in this week if possible and ask them to check it over. Better safe than sorry!

hi dogus, thanks for the link - I did have a quick check through the forums before posting to see if it had been mentioned before, but obviously didn't find that thread.
Fingers crossed the problem won't be too expensive (touch wood) ... knowing my luck though, I doubt it! :-) :-( ...... ok, off to ring the local dealer and get the thing in and checked out.
