I can't get the new shifter back into the socket. Am I just not hitting it hard enough or is there a knack to it ??

I'm still hitting it with the hammer but it's not going in.
Someone must have fitted one of these before ??

It's the JW Racing one. Fitting was pretty easy, even for a novice mechanic like myself. Used these instructions from Scoobymods. Had a few problems getting the shifter back in but just needed to hit it harder. Been for a quick spin to make sure it all working ok. It's just catching on the surround when in 1st gear so I'm off to B&Q in the morning to get a file to alter the surround slightly. This appears to be a know issue.

Gear changes are new very slick and suit my driving style nicely.
