Question

Has anyone fitted an EGT probe into a MY99?

If so where is the probe fitted, I understand the easiest place is to fit it into the D/P but it will run 200 degrees lower than in the U/P, has anyone fitted this to the U/P and how easy is it to fit?

Cheers

Haven't done it, but I imagine the easiest is actually the manifold - up-pipe is a bit of a bugger to get at. Wherever, you definately want it pre-turbo.
Pop the manifold off, port it while it's off, and then drill a hole for the correct gauge at the collector. I think JB has done it? Actually, no, as he has a new one... I remember photos somewhere, no idea what thread it was attached to though so can't search for it

EGT probes are usually fitted to the manifold since loss of temp in exhaust depends on various things and will not always be as accurate as the manifold.

Why not take the opportunity to change the uppipe?

Get a boss welded on and tap it with a suitable thread (1/8BSP) to take a compression fitting for the thermocouple.

Thermocouples and compression fittings can be had from RS for around £25

Yeah, and when you drill the manifold, make sure you let the small metal pieces out, not to get that stuff fcukin up the turbo!
