A couple of months ago, I started getting serious grating when going from 4th to 5th at high revs. It was only a minor annoyance, so I let it slide.
I'm now getting grating when going from 4th down into 3rd.
Any idea's?
Gearbox shot? Warrenty?
By the way it's a P1 Sept 2000, with 23,500 on the clock.

 

worn synchro rings mate

thats the brass looking bit that stops the gear from spinning while the hub grips it, only a rebuild will cure it
worth checking the clutch aswell tho could also cause grating if not releasing properly

If you don't mind forking out around 35 quid try changing the gearbox oil to Castrol Syntrax. Unless you've been particularly brutal the synchro should not be shot after such a low mileage?
