Should I service at Garage?????
#1
My car (UK MY97 wagon) is due for 45000 mile service. I have looked at the subaru FAQ and the 45k service looks to be an oil, plugs and belt change and lots of inspects, which I am relying on them to do. As I have only had rhe car for 4 months and got the plugs and belt changed the first week I had the car is it worth spending the £200+ for an alleged inspection and oil change. I am contemplating spending the cash on some better quality HT leads possibly iridium plugs and changing oil and filter myself. I should be able to do the inspects with a friend. I appreciate I won't have a stamped service book but all going well I will have the car for the next 5 years or so and will be able to supply lots of receipts when I do sell it. (that was the plan with my last car, a 306 cabriolet and it lasted about 6 months). Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Might be worth taking to a 'specialist' as opposed to a Subaru garage. They'd take what's already been done into account, but you'd also get a thorough look at your car from people who know what they're doing.
Not too sure where to go in North Yorkshire though, that not really being my neck of the woods...

I'm sure if you explain what's been done on the car, to a dealer they will knock it off the price. As long as you agree a price before they touch the car. If they don't put a cam belt on that will save you £90 for the part alone.
I don't understand why you had the belt and plugs done when the car was already coming towards the 45k service.
Wher abouts in N.yorks are ya.

When I got the car it was 4 years old and the cambelt is 45k or 36 months, I didn't know if it had been done and it wasn't worth the risk. It turned out to be a good decision as the one of the tensioners was seized and the belt had no tension at all, I'd been driving for a week and the belt could have gone at any time. The car had only done 37500 when I got it but I'm also not 100% that this is genuine. I'm at boroughbridge in answer to the other question. Cheers for the replies to everyone, will probably phone for a few prices on monday.
