If someone has fitted that VN2AA box to a standard type R without changing the rear diff, then stop driving NOW. The VN2AA needs a 3.545:1 rear diff and the type R is 4.4:1 You will do several hundreds of pounds worth of damage to the centre diff, if you haven't done so already.

0.738 is the highest 5th gear available. There is a 0.77 from an obscure Legacy and then JDM anything is usually 0.825. Early RA is 0.97.

1.1:1 means that there is an under / or overdrive situation between the two shafts one is going faster/ slower than the other. IE the input shaft turns 1.1 times for every 1 turn of the other.

So, the front diff in any UK 5 speed car is 3.9:1 and the rear diff is 3.545 If you multiply 3.545 by 1.1 you get ??????? go on, you do the maths.

This is done to reduce noise/vibration/harshness by cutting down propshaft speed.

Sorry 172, I don't follow you.

ANY uk 5 speed turbo car box [ no matter 752 or 754 type ] takes a 3.545 rear diff. P1 is an exception, but that is VB type JDM box

Ron is correct in what he says UK box = UK rear diff [ Unless it is a rebuilt-for-another-purpose type box.

David.

Hello, I own a 2001 bugeye. It has a TY754VN2AA gearbox. I understand this has a final drive of 3.9.I understand these boxes I can get:
TY754VN1AA
TY754VN1AB
TY754VN2AA
TY754VN2BA
TY754VV4AA
TY754VV5AA
TY754VW7AA
they all seem to have same gears n final drive of 3.9.

I thought the whole purpose of getting the right box is to ensure it goes with the rear dif?? So for example the TY754VBBAA has a final drive if 4.444 so I thought the rear dif must be 4.444 too!? This had me looking all over net for mine.

What i don't understand is how do u know what dif u have? There seems to be only two types r160 n r180, am I right? And mine should have a code of 27020AA050 but I've seen a gear box on the list with 4.111 final drive and 4.444 final drive have a 27020AA05 r160 rear dif code???

I'm real confused. Please can u help me understand it. I hope i made sense. What im getting at is i think i can get any of the boxes above but actually what it looks like to me is i can get any that has a r160 27020AA050 rear dif which is a LOT more boxes. Thank u
